6/ Beach District Neighbourhood

Applying the “Total Design” philosophy to an entire district and building on the success of Granville Island across False Creek, Vancouver House is not just an architectural breakthrough, but the active core of a new waterfront neighbourhood called the “Beach District”. The concept is to create a diverse and lively zone for living and shopping with a new retail, hospitality, workspace, and cultural development. The Beach District will directly connect with a proposed Greenway on top of the Granville Bridge, a panoramic walking and bike pathway to Granville Island, and the retail and entertainment district along South Granville.

Coal Harbour

Westbank was one of the two leading developers responsible for turning the rail yard belonging to the Canadian Pacific Railway along the shores of Coal Harbour into Canada’s preeminent waterfront neighbourhood.

Shaw Tower completed in 2005 is Vancouver’s only waterfront office building and is considered by many to be the city’s premier office building. Shaw Tower also pioneered luxury high rise residential living on the waterfront and is considered one of the best residential buildings in the city.

Fairmont Pacific Rim completed in 2010 injected significant life into Coal Harbour and was one of the final pieces to the neighbourhood. Considered by many to be the best hotel in Canada, it added a much needed social component to the neighbourhood with one of the city’s only nightly live music venues, The Lobby Lounge and Giovane Café. The Estates at Fairmont Pacific Rim were and still are the most expensive residential high rise properties in Canada.

 

 

Gastown

Woodward’s, named by the Vancouver Sun as one of the ten most significant events in the history of Vancouver and profiled in The New York Times, sparked the renaissance of Gastown into the vibrant mixed income neighbourhood it is today while simultaneously helping to preserve the neighbourhood’s history.

The legacy of Woodward’s continued with 60 W Cordova which brought more affordable housing to the neighbourhood without government subsidies while still advancing architectural quality and innovative public art.

 

 

Alberni Street

Palisades and Residences on Georgia began the revival of this area into a precinct of architectural quality and mixed use city living.
